Downright embarrassing: Indian cricket fans fume after Lord’s disaster

first_imgIndian batsmen put another dismal performance at the Lord’s as the visitors were trounced by an innings and 159 runs by England in the second Test on Sunday. The hosts also took a 2-0 lead in the five-match series with the victory. It was an absolute no-show from the famed batting line-up of the Indian cricket team as they scored just 237 runs in the two innings combined, in comparison to England’s 396 runs in just one innings. While all-rounder Chris Woakes and Johnny Bairstow stood up for England when they were in trouble, none of the Indian batsmen managed to get their application right on a dodgy wicket in tough conditions as James Anderson and Stuart Broad wrecked havoc.Ravichandran Ashwin was India’s top scorer in both the innings at Lord’s with scores of 29 and 33 not out and that says a great deal about how the batsmen have been doing in English conditions. It was a humiliation for India to say the least and Twitter did not spare the Indian batsmen, who had gone to England at the back some big performances and tall words. Also read – India handed humiliating defeat by ruthless England at Lord’sSome took pot shots at Virat Kohli’s actress wife Anushka Sharma once again, days after a huge controversy erupted when BCCI posted at photograph of the Indian cricket team with Anushka standing in centre alongside captain Kohli.Time for Virat Kohli to replace Murali Vijay with Anushka Sharma #ENGvINDAahana (@aahxna) August 12, 2018*Press conference*Reporter – what are the positives you want to take from this test ??Virat – well, we lost on the 4th day so now I have one extra day to take Anushka for shopping#ENGvINDadvertisementJon Snow (@Gujju_Jon) August 12, 2018Some people called for the sacking of Ravi Shastri after two back-to-back failures against England, criticising once again the decision to appoint him as India coach after sacking Anil Kumble. Also read – Virat Kohli after innings defeat at Lord’s: We were outplayed and deserved to loseSome also wrote that they were missing former greats like Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman and Virender Sehwag after a shoddy show from the current Indian batting line-up.READ – Highlights of India’s embarrassing Lord’s Test lossIndian fans called the defeat “embarrassing” and an “absolute surrender”. In 2011 and 2014 they were being rolled over similarly. In 2011 the excuse was oh they are old, 2014 it was oh they are too young and will learn. What now? #EngvInd #cricketChandresh Narayanan (@chand2579) August 12, 2018The debate on “whom to criticize for this loss” is more competitive than the actual #ENGvIND game ????H (@Hramblings) August 12, 2018″Wriddhiman Saha can’t bat” but he has a better batting average than Dinesh Karthik with 3 Test hundreds across more games.Saha also doesn’t look as clueless behind the stumps irrespective of the conditions. This is not a popular opinion so it won’t sell well. #ENGvINDKASHISH (@crickashish217) August 12, 2018This is absolute surrender to be honest. Just the pits. #EngvIndLiam (@DayNightTrader) August 12, 2018While it was a dismal batting performance from India, Virat Kohli still showed a bit of resistance even with a stiff back. Kohli, who played for 57 minutes on Sunday before falling to Broad on 17 received the sympathies of Twitter users for carrying this team forward. Also read – Joe Root expects England to improve further after hammering India at Lord’sWhile Kohli was criticised for his captaincy and on-field decision, some chose to defend him and questioned who else will captain India if not Kohli.Kohli’s captaincy may have been poor but if not Kohli then who?
