Vancouver Canucks looking to build rivalry with new Seattle hockey team

VANCOUVER — The Vancouver Canucks are looking forward to building a new rivalry as the NHL expands to Seattle. The league’s board of governors announced Tuesday that it has approved the new franchise and the yet-unnamed team will play starting in 2021.B.C.-born Canucks defenceman Troy Stecher says adding a new club just over 200 kilometres south of Vancouver is exciting for both the league and his team.He notes that a strong rivalry already exists in Major League Soccer between the Vancouver Whitecaps and their regional foes, the Seattle Sounders. But Stecher says developing a similar sense of competition in the NHL will take more than geography, and that the teams will need to battle over time.Canucks head coach Travis Green says he hopes his squad develops a good rivalry with the Seattle team. The Canadian Press
