New Labor Law Book Out

first_imgThe Regional Office of the International Labor Organization (ILO), near Abuja, Nigeria, has donated 2,000 copies of the new Labor Law of Liberia entitled, ‘Decent Work Act of 2015,’ to the Ministry of Labor (MoL).The presentation was made at the Ministry of Labor on Wednesday, December 14, in Monrovia.Labor Minister Neto Lighe, Sr., who received the copies of the Act on behalf of the government, expressed gratitude to ILO Head of the Regional Office for West Africa, Dennis Zulu, and his team for the “good work.”“My administration has on previous occasions requested the ILO to assist the Ministry to (disseminate) the Decent Work Act across the country,” Minister Lighe said. According to him, during their discussions, Mr. Zulu agreed to produce copies of the Act, “a promise which is fulfilled with the presentation ceremony today.” The Minister expressed gratitude for the books and added that the Labor Ministry and its partners, including the Liberia Chamber of Commerce and Liberia Labor Congress, will collaborate in disseminating the tenets of the new law to the public. He also promised to make copies available to the Legislature, the courts and the Liberia Bar Association. In his remarks, Salif Haji Massalay, head of the ILO Liberia Office, said that his organization’s key mandate is to ensure decent work and social justice for all. He said the ILO will work with the ministry to sensitize the public on what constitutes the rights of workers and the responsibilities of employers under the new law.
